Humble, sweet, and down to earth; just a few words to describe Fil-Am actressVanessa Hudgens’s demeanor during the early morning conference call/press-junket for her new movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. The feature film is an action packed, family friendly film that also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Josh Hutcherson, Michael Caine, Luis Guzman, and Kristin Davis. This highly anticipated film is set to take you on a 3-D adventure through an unknown island with “....strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret.”
Filmed on location on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, Vanessa mentioned that “...this was such an extremely and incredibly fun movie to make.” She stated that the cast and the production team was great to work with, and even added that co-star Luis Guzman became like a second father to her and that “he was a riot to work with.” When asked about working with all the CGI and special effects and how she felt when she saw everything put together, Vanessa answered that it felt really rewarding seeing everything on screen for the first time at the film’s World Premiere in Melbourne, Australia. She also mentioned that while watching her own work she usually critiques herself throughout the film, but with this particular film being set in 3-D she felt that the movie pulled her into the adventure and all she could do was to absorb and enjoy it.
With two movies already wrapped after Journey 2, Vanessa is keeping busy so her fans have a lot to look out for. One of the movies is entitled “Give Me Shelter.” Vanessa says she feels that this is one of her first really heavy dramatic roles. She plays a pregnant teen fighting and struggling for the survival of herself and her child. The second movie is entitled “The Frozen Ground,” based on a true story of a mass murderer from the 80’s raping and killing innocent women and burying them all over Alaska.
As the interview was about to end, I asked Vanessa how she felt about being in the forefront of being one of the top Filipino-American Actress in Hollywood. She humbly replied “It’s amazing! It’s such an honor, such a major privilege. I always love standing up for my people and I will always try to do my best so it’s an honor.”
